20th Anniversary Midnight Wander!

On Friday 20th September, Astley Sports Village hosted and sponsored the 20th Anniversary of Willow Wood, with the return of the 10k Midnight Wander.

Over 300 of the local community arrived prior to midnight to get their T-Shirts and begin the build up to midnight with Councillors and the Mayor meeting those taking part that night and hearing about loved ones who have used Willow Wood Hospice over the years and how important events like these are to raise much needed funds to keep the hospice open each year.

Just before midnight all those taking part moved onto our Astro Turf for a warm up with Team ASV Class Instructors Lisa V and Jo Foxy. At the stroke of midnight the ribbon was cut and 300 people descended to the streets of Dukinfield and Tameside to walk the 10k route. There was a fantastic community spirit before, during and after the event. This is what makes events like these so important by getting the local community together whilst helping raise money for local charities.

Event Start

Mark Storie, Director of Astley Sports Village & Community Governor of Rayner Stephens High School; “It was a pleasure to sponsor and host the 20th anniversary of Willow Wood through the Midnight Wander event here at Astley Sports Village. We host many of Willow Wood events throughout the year and this one has to be the biggest and most iconic to date. There is so many of our local community here sharing their reasons for taking part in this event. We have a range of ages here tonight including families bringing their children, which is fantastic to see as it shows that community spirit and engagement.”
